TOP TEN THINGS SO FAR

Writer's picture: Mack JamesMack James

#10 ,

All the airbags work on this contraption. So does everything else. Bonus right there.

#9.

Good time on the Victoria waterfront for our first two nights. A small mishap upon departure that proves, once again, that nobody is perfect. Even after a half century of practice, I can still back into things. No harm done.

In the spirit of talking to strangers, we talked to two of them on the ferry. The first was a guy who parked beside me on the truck deck, and, after some conversation, he gave me his phone number and said to call him first if we ever wanted to sell our motorhome. Crazy.

The second was a lady that we met in the ferry cafeteria who talked to us for the whole hour and a half. I should say that Gail met her and I joined later. As if to prove my point that nobody is boring, she had a whole bagful of stories that neither of us had heard before. I spare you the details, but it was interesting. Not boring. I am right, my friend is wrong.

Good time in Kilby park, which is about 17k west of Aggassiz. Beautiful location, excellent weather, full moon, etc. Camped with the folks that got us into this, enjoyed visits from friends and family, had our first overnight guest, etc. Rode bikes along a dike, paddled around on a sea cycle, generally had a fine time.

Drove over the Coquihalla to Kelowna. Did not overheat, did not burn the brakes. Stopped beside the road and had our first road lunch senior style, which means getting stuff out of your own fridge and sitting at your own table in the middle of nowhere. Saved 30 bucks right there. More for gas.

Had to revise a campground booking for Revelstoke, and wouldn’t you know, they did it. I didn’t think they would.

Arrived in Kelowna where my brother has the ideal RV spot right in his yard. Kinda semi rural, with owls, frogs, trees, etc. Backed in, set up, and what should appear from the fridge but a bottle of J Lohr. From fellow winers. Excellent. Enjoyed it.

Went looking for a couple of needed RV items in Kelowna and behold, I found them. That’s a good day for a shopophobe; find the stuff and get out of there.

Right now it is raining in Kelowna. There is nothing finer in this world than a summer rain on your cabin roof. Even if your cabin has wheels.

There were seagulls in Victoria, trains in Kilby, and frogs in Kelowna, but we slept soundly through it all. We even slept through each other’s snoring, which we didn’t think we would but we did. Hallelujah.

Bottom line: it’s a solid nine so far. I’d say ten but you need to leave room for improvement. So it’s a nine.

I’m going to put some pictures on here sometime, maybe tonight after the hockey game. Stay tuned.

ODE TO RUBY

Ruby the dog is my favorite.  It’s just that simple. Here are the reasons.  First, Ruby is well behaved.  Maybe it’s because of her breed...

So happy to hear the airbags work given you appear a bit accident prone! Love your writing style - I hear it in your voice and it makes me wonder where I set my wine glass. Glad you enjoyed the J Lohr (somehow thought you might)! Glad to hear that stranger danger has been debunked and you’re settling in to good times. Thanks for sharing! 🥂

Love and happy times to you both,

Jan & Lorne
