SLOW NEWS DAY

Writer's picture: Mack JamesMack James

By comparison with today’s news—or any other day’s news—our meanderings are not very exciting.  Just today, for instance, Kamala became the Democrat front runner, Jasper got evacuated, Mitch Marner got traded, and the Princess of Monaco wore an animal print top with white skinny jeans.  How can we compete with that?  All we did was hide in our moho with the air conditioner running, waiting for the heat to recede.

But perhaps perspective needs to be considered.  Gail is reading a book which can’t be mentioned here for fear of besmirching her reputation in certain quarters, and I am reading the first novel I’ve read in years. That’s as exciting as the Princess of Monaco’s outfit, isn’t it?   Further, we are about to venture down the blistering Crowchild Trail in a 20 year old Chev car that is just waiting for the heat to kill it.  Akin to the fleeing Jasper folks, is it not?  Or maybe not, but it does make me nervous.

At any rate, there was some demand (2 people, to be exact) that we keep you posted, boring or not, so herewith a brief update.

We’re in Cochrane by the Bow River, in the same RV park that we met Lee Marvin in last year.  (read previous posts, for pete sake).  We came here on Monday, having spent a good weekend with family in Didsbury Ab, whose identities I will conceal in case Al Qaeda is looking for them.  They treated us to a Meadery tour west of Cremona, Ab, and also to some primary food and fellowship.  Of additional note is the ubiquitous railroad, which runs through their town and almost ran through our moho.  We are used to that from last year. (read the posts.  How often do I have to say that?)

So here we are.  We’re gonna hang around here for a couple of weeks or so, maybe longer, until we’re visited out and/or we get tired of Calgary, whichever comes first. Then we’re gonna head into the States so I can keep my finger on the American political pulse.  That will be exciting, I think.  If we don’t make it, you’ll have to rely on google.

Speaking of that, a guy was backing a trailer into the space beside us yesterday, causing Gail to sound the alarm.  “He’s too close,” she shrieked.  Actually, she just said.  So I looked up, but he was doing fine.  Got it into his space in one shot, which is always impressive.  A couple of hours later, he introduced himself to us.  Turns out he’s an American from Michigan, touring all over the place to meet people he’s met on previous RV escapades.  So, a gregarious couple, he and his wife, and after chatting briefly, he had to go to the laundromat.  “We’ll be chatting,” he said as he left.  How’s that for a line?  Up there with “see ya soon”, and other stuff that extroverts say.

I’m looking forward to visiting with them.  Maybe they’ll tell us everything there is to know about American politics and we won’t have to go there.  Who knows.  Anyway, he can back a trailer up in one shot, so I like him already.  Stay tuned.

Here’s a brain teaser for you while you’re waiting to hear what our neighbor says:

When will The Donald take the bandage off his ear, and what will his ear look like?  Let me know what you think, but be polite.
